Hi there.
The most common causes of fevers in this range is still the presence of infections.
Common infections would include upper respiratory tract infections (mostly viral) or a very silent urinary
tract infection. Viral infections usually subside with supportive treatment alone, while urinary tract
infections would have to be treated with antibiotics.
Aside from standard fever medications, sponge baths are a good way to lower the temperature quickly. This is
accomplished by swabing the entire body with a damp cloth, then immediately following through with a dry
cloth.
What we see on TV with the damp cloth being placed just on top of the forehead does not work.
It is important to work up for any other sources of infection such as the ears, throat, urinary tract, and
lungs.
Regards.
