Can HPV be Transmitted through childbirth to children, to partner through oral sex and genital touching, and back and forth between partners, and prevented through use of condoms?

I am a 40 y.o. woman who was diagnosed with HPV and have beed cleared after having the LEEP procedure. There is very little specific information on how it is transmitted. Can it be transmitted by oral sex, by hand to genital touching? My boyfriend of 4 years must have it, too, since we have had unprotected sex and may be the one who gave it to me. As I am treated, am I then getting it back with continuing to have unprotected sex with my him? If I use a condom, can we still pass it on? As I don't know when I acquired it, and my 8 y.o.daughter has a plantar's wart, does that mean that she could have HPV, too, from when I gave birth to her? So many questions. Help. Thanks very much

Hi, Some HPV types can cause warts while others may cause a subclinical infection resulting in precancerous lesions. All HPVs are transmitted by skin-to-skin contact and/or by fomites.A fomite is any inanimate object or substance capable of carrying infectious organisms (such as germs or parasites) and hence transferring them from one individual to another. A fomite can be anything such as a cloth or mop heads so when cleaning this is important to remember that this could aid when spreading pathogenic organisms. Skin cells, hair, clothing and bedding are common hospital sources of contamination. Once cells are invaded by HPV, a latency (quiet) period of months to years may occur. The latency period means the HPV virus is in an incubation period. Having sex with a partner whose HPV infection is in the incubation period still leaves one vulnerable to becoming infected. HPV virus can last from 3 months to 2 years without visible changes, making it difficult for an infectee to establish the source of infection. The concern about life-long recurrences may be based on a misconception rather than a myth. It is true that at present there is no cure for genital human papillomavirus. As a virus, it will remain in the infected person's cells for an indefinite time--most often in a latent state, but occasionally producing symptoms or disease. ref:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP In all likelyhood you have contracted the virus from your boy-friend, who would have been a carrier since he was not showing any symptoms. Although the virus can be transmited across the placenta it is not the strain which causes plantar warts. Plantar warts are much less likely to spread from person to person. All warts can spread from one part of your own body to another. Most HPV infections are cleared rapidly by the immune system and do not progress to cervical cancer.Engaging in anal sex or oral sex with an HPV-infected partner may increase the risk of developing MOUTH AND THROAT cancers.
