Contraceptive Pill-right one for me

Asked by Unregistered (Female; 24; Ireland; no history of diseases; Relevant drugs:none ) on Mon 15, Sep 2008 08:57pm :

Hi I went on the contraceptive pill Mercilon 5 years ago as i had very painful and heavy periods. I found it helped this a lot and it cleared up my acne on my back aswell, only issue i had with it was that i was quite moody. 2 years ago i decided to switch to Implanon thinking it was even better, as i didn't need to take something daily. However since being on it i have heavy discharge and bad back acne.I could handle this but in the last few months i'm having periods twice a month. I am thinking of going back to the doctor to go back on the Pill. any pill you would recommend researching on the net before i go that would be best? thanks

Answer by Dr Paul S, MD (doctor) on Mon 15, Sep 2008 10:24pm:

Hi there. Choosing a contraceptive pill would really take some form of experimentation or trial, since each person responds to hormonal agents very differently and uniquely from other women. Your previous experience with Mercilon provides you with a good insight on the possible side effects and if the mood swings that you had are tolerable and does not cause significant social impairment, then going back to this pill may be your best option. Regards.
