Hi
For fluttering or palpitations, then differentials will include cardiac or thyroid problems. Your physician
was thinking along this line thus, the request for hormone levels and the EKG. The results of the tests as you
have mentioned were normal. At this point, we should not be very worried. However, for the sake of being
thorough and also to ease your worries, I would suggest a referral or a consult with a cardiovascular
specialist. Further evaluation of the heart through 2D echo to visualize cardiac muscles and a stress test may
be necessary. Also, you have noted of right shoulder pain. I would suggest an ultrasound of the gallbladder
just to rule out gallstones. Though you are quite slim based on your height and weight, gallstones may present
with right sided pain associated with abdominal pain and a sensation of fullness. Females above 40 years of
age and who are overweight are at risk for gallstone formation.
Get some time to relax. When the palpitations happen, take a deep breath and calm yourself. Being anxious may
aggravate the condition. Also, try to determine if this is associated with menses or food intake.
