I have hyperthyroidism, which I had the iodine radiation about a 1 1/2 ago. all my test are normal, but My mood swings at my husband and children are destroying my relationship which is about to cause my divorce. I fly off the handle at them, they never know what to expect. I am always tired, and I have no sex drive. I might eat all day long for a couple of days at a time then I may not eat for a couple of weeks. I dont want to go outside, or If I go grocery shopping, I wont buy grocery's I will buy everything except food. I cant stop spending money at times, I had a drug problem a couple of years ago but I havent done any drugs in years. I am not sure how to even talk to my doctor or what should I ask. When I went for my thyroid, he said that was the problem but now I am not sure what it is.. Can I be normal again??

Hi,Thank you for your question I can understand your anxiety regarding your condition. Ultimately, your treatment will depend on the cause of your condition and the severity of the symptoms. Compliance with treatment is essential to avoid a relapse or worsening of the condition. Initially, treatment is with antithyroid medications. Drugs called beta-blockers can also be used to treat some of the symptoms including rapid heart rate, sweating, and anxiety until the condition is controlled. Unfortunately, recurrences of hyperthyroidism after tablet treatment are not uncommon and sometimes patients will need to be on maintenance therapy, or be considered for radioactive iodine, or surgical therapy to get relief. Take care and God Bless.
