Hello,
Welcome to the forum. There are several possibilities that can present with a hard lump near the anus. The
first possibility that seems to be the likely diagnosis is external hemorrhoids. It presents as painful
swelling or a hard lump around the anus that results when a blood clot forms. This condition is known as a
thrombosed external hemorrhoid. In addition, excessive straining, rubbing, cleaning around the anus may cause
irritation with bleeding or itching, which may produce a vicious cycle of symptoms. You need to consult a
surgeon and get an examination and per rectum examination done. In some cases anoscopy or proctoscopy need to
be done. In this a hollow, lighted tube used to visualize the anus or rectum need to be done. The other
possibilities that can present with such symptoms are a sebaceous cyst, genital wart, benign skin growth,
rectal prolapse, prostate conditions which may present as a feeling of rectal fullness rather than an actual
rectal lump and some rectal malignancy(very less likely due to your age). Till you get it examined from a
surgeon, sit in warm sitz baths, eat more of fiber in your diet, try avoiding constipation and drink six to
eight glasses of water and fluids( not alcohol). I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep us posted in
case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
