Asked by Unregistered on Sun 24, Jul 2011 10:25am :

My boyfriend and I have been bleeding after sexual intercourse... when he ejaculates he bleed or when he pees after we had sex. He tells me that his penis doesn't hurt and he doesn't feel pain. And as for me The last month my period almost lasted 3 weeks. And now I am bleeding again. Can this be my period for this month I had stopped for already two weeks. I am really concerned with my boyfriend. I went to the doctors and got an std check and I didn't have any. Is there any chance he has one and has passed it on to me yet??

Answer by Dr Sheetal Kaul (doctor) on Wed 27, Jul 2011 11:25am:

Hi. The two are unlikely to be related. Post-coital bleeding in men is most commonly due to prostatic venous bleed though it could originate from the testicles, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles or urethra as well. Other and related causes include infections (bacterial, viral, fungal, parasitic)/inflammations (50%), calculi, post inflammatory cysts, uncontrolled hypertension, diverticuli, strictures, trauma, growths, bleeding disorders malignancies (4-13%) etc. Multiple causes may be involved in a few cases. It is best advised to consult a urologist for the same. As for prolonged menstruation and intermenstrual bleeding; these could occur due to hormonal/ endocrine imbalances, bleeding disorders, growths, ulcers, erosions etc. You may like to consult a gynaecologist for an evaluation and appropriate treatment. Hope this helps. Take care.
