Hi there.
After a miscarriage, the cervix are supposed to close after the passage of any fetal or uterine material. A
closed cervix protects the uterus from infection or any unwanted microorganisms. This is the natural
process.
However, there are instances where the cervix fails to close after a miscarriage, and the most common reason
for this is that there can be a retained placenta or any conception material inside the uterus. This would
warrant a currettage procedure to evacuate all of these residual tissues.
Regards.
