Yasmin causing period changes

	I am 21 years old and have been taking Yasmin since the age of 16 due to the effects of a hormonal imbalance and polycystic ovaries. I have usually started my period on Sunday and ended my cycle on Wednesday. For the past two months, my cycle has been delayed by a day but still ending on Wednesday. Do I need to worry about this?

	Answer by Dr Veena, MD (doctor) on Mon 09, Feb 2009 10:41pm: Hi, Yasmin is a hormonal birth control pill used for birth control primarily, but in patient’s with PCOD it is used to regularize periods and minimise bleeding to prevent complications like anemia, weakness etc. The common side effects of this drug are nausea, bloating, headache, diarrhea, bleeding between menstrual periods, weight gain, acne, stomach cramps, rash, skin spots, breast tenderness etc. You don’t have to worry about your period starting after a day delayed. But you should discuss with your doctor about using hormonal pills for many years, as in your case.
