Hi,
Well, this is question which has left the scientific community utterly confused. The choice between a
conservative treatment of cervical myelopathy and surgical treatment. The conservative treatment / medical
management consists of pharmacological therapy, bed rest, cervical traction, neck bracing and epidural
injections and in the surgical treatment, there’re two options; laminectomy in which a portion of the vertebra
is removed to give a wider space to spinal cord but the chances of complications with this surgery have been
found to be slightly more compared to laminoplasty in which a repair of the cervical vertebra is done and
complication rate is slightly less.
However, in nutshell, in the long term there hasn’t been found to be much difference between the surgical and
the medical management and hence I’ll suggest medical management only.
I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted.
Bet regards.
