effect of combination prostap and microgynon in ruling out possible presence of endometriosis

Microgynon Prostap injection - 1 per month )

i am currently having monthly prostap injections to try and rule out the presence of endometriosis. i had already started a strip of the contraceptive pill by the time i got my first injection so the consultant advised a continue until the end of the pack and then stop and said i should only experience a light bleed. i experienced a full on period. i contacted my GP for advise who told me to continue on my pill as normal and see how i was the following month and if i expereinced no bleed then i could stop my pill. i still bled. i am now continuing to take microgynon on top of the prostap injection and still expereincing abdominal pain and have now been bleeding for 6 days. i am due for my next injection next week. was my doctor right in advising me to take the pill on top of the injection? or am i only bleeding because of the 7 day break in between pill packs and therefore still cycling as normal? i was told it would stop all menstrual activity. whats going on?

Hi, Thanks for writing in. Prostap injection will cause the menstrual period to stop completely as it inhibits the ovulation and thins the endometrial lining. What you are probably experiencing is breakthrough bleeding due the oral contraceptive pills. It is not advised to take hormonal contraceptives with Prostap injection. Non hormonal methods of contraception are usually advised. I would suggest you to schedule an appointment with your OBGYN as you may need to come off the hormonal contraceptive. Hope this helps!
