Hello. You have a long history of Hepatitis C. Blood transfusion is a common route of transmission of this viral infection. The infection can also spread via other body fluids, especially the seminal fluid. If you received blood transfusions during the surgery for the gastric ulcers, the virus may have entered through the transfusion(s). Hepatitis C is also the commonest cause of chronic (long term) hepatitis. Infection of the liver causes inflammation of the liver cells. There may be no symptoms initially. When the infection has persisted for some time, it starts manifesting as the various symptoms of Hepatitis C. Some of the common symptoms of Hepatitis C, which you can also correlate with your own condition, can be divided into acute and chronic symptoms. As I mentioned earlier, almost two third of the patients may not have any symptoms in the acute stage (usually the first six months). Others experience fatigue, itching, loss of appetite, etc. The chronic symptoms are right upper quadrant pain, nausea, loss of appetite, muscle pain and joint pains. I wish to draw your attention to the cytokeratins. Please make sure if the doctor who told you about the "hair strands" around the liver was actually speaking about the cytokeratins. Otherwise, it is difficult to explain how and why hair strands might encircle the liver. There are some extrahepatic (other than liver) complications of cirrhosis. Of much interest is the porphyria cutanea tarda (PCT). PCT involves, among other symptoms, increased hair growth. You may actually be growing more hair off your skin. But as far as the tongue and vagina are concerned, the skin type in these two parts is not equipped with the mechanism for hair growth. What are these white/red "hair"? There is a possibility of candida infection of the oral cavity and the vaginal cavity. You may get strands of thick curdy discharge, which look like hair. A good decision will be to get it examined by a dermatologist, despite your earlier experiences. Cirrhosis of liver also manifests as fibromyalgia and muscle wasting, two very important features which your case may be related to. The symptoms of neck stiffness and thinning of the unilateral face and shoulder muscles suggests precisely this phenomenon of muscle wasting of cirrhosis. The sensation of hair pulling on the skin is seen with chronic cirrhosis. However, the similar sensation in the cheek after removal of the cyst may be due to a local nerve injury which has not yet healed completely. Overall, it appears that you should focus on the cirrhosis of liver and make attempts to control it. More importantly, do not give up on your quest for the right answers.
