i haven't started my period yet, and i think i might be pregnant, but i'm confused because the pregnancy test said negative

	i was supposed to start my period last thursday and i haven't yet. the only possibility of me being pregnant was 10 days ago on july 4th. but i took a pregnancy test and it said negative. so do you think i am pregnant but its just too early to tell or it is something else?

	Answer by Dr Paul S, MD (doctor) on Sat 19, Jul 2008 06:22pm: Hi there. If you have just missed your period by a few days, it is indeed to early to tell if you are pregnant. Usually, the HCG levels in the blood that are secreted by the implanted fertilized egg is still not adequate during this short span of time. It is best to wait for another two weeks before taking another test, but I won't be surprised if this can also be just due to delayed menses. For now, it is best to act and eat as if you are indeed pregnant (avoiding alcohol, cigarette smoke, avoiding over the counter drugs) until this can be confirmed or disproved. Regards and God bless.
