Answer by Dr Bhupinder K, MD (doctor) on Wed 03, Sep 2008 01:07am:

Hello, Ovarian abnormalities are always abnormal. What ovarian abnormality have you been diagnosed with?Pls elaborate on your symptoms and your abnormality. The main function of the ovary is to release egg cells and to produce hormones.Conception is achieved if there is fertilization of an egg released by the ovary at ovulation with a male sperm. If there is any abnormality of the ovary, then it will lead to decreased egg production or poor quality of the eggs leading to problems in conception. Hence for conception.ovary should be healthy.Pls consult a gynecologist as soon as possible to treat your underlying abnormality of the ovary as soon as possible. In order to conceive, intercourse should be done around ovulation. Ovulation is the release of a single, mature egg from a follicle that developed in the ovary. It usually occurs regularly, around day 14 of a 28-day menstrual cycle. Once released, the egg is capable of being fertilized for 12 to 48 hours before it begins to disintegrate. This is the most fertile period of your cycle: during ovulation your chances of conception are highest. The best timing of intercourse in order to conceive is day 10, 12, 14 and 16 (in case of late ovulation) of a 28 day cycle. Hope it helps. Take care and regards.
