positive pregnancy test and bleeding

	I started what seemed to be my period. started extremely light. barely a spotting. that lasted about 3 days. on the 4th day it was heavy. i am also having some lower abdomen pain and lower back aching. i took a pregnancy test and it came back positive. although 2-3 weeks ago i saw gyno for some abdomen pain thinking it may be a cyst but my urine test came back negative for pregnancy and ultrasound showed no cysts. evertying was fine then. should i be worried that maybe in the meantime i got pregnant and am miscarrying?

	Answer by Dr Paul S, MD (doctor) on Sat 13, Sep 2008 07:26am: Hi there. A pregnancy test is quite accurate, and I believe that this positive result should be investigated further. You may indeed be pregnant and these bleeding may be due to some form of miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. The bleeding may also be explained by implantation of the fertilized egg within the endometrial lining and cause some bleeding. Abnormal pregnancies such as molar pregnancies may also explain this phenomenon. I suggest you return to your gynecologist to have this evaluated. Regards and God bless.
