Hi,
If the inflammation in the tonsils is due to an infection, it would not settle down with warm salt-water
gargling, though it will provide pain relief.
You will need to consult your GP or her OB/GYN who can prescribe a course of antibiotics that are safe in
pregnancy. This includes penicillins and some cephalosporins, but other antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin,
azithromycin, and other groups (including the antibiotics belonging to the two groups mentioned here) are
contraindicated for use in pregnancy.
Additionally, you can ensure she takes plenty of milk and vitamin C, gargles after every meal or drink, and
brushes her teeth more frequently than usual (3--4 times a day). It would be better to provide her with a
liquid diet, comprising soups, juices, and porridges, along with fruits rich in vitamin C.
Do keep us posted.
regards,
